As a PhD candidate, the scale of the coursework you need to complete at NOSTER (or any other research school in the Humanities) is determined by your own institution. You are free to decide which NOSTER modules you wish to participate in.
Once you have completed all NOSTER modules you want to participate in, you can request a Record of Courses from the NOSTER office. It lists all modules you have completed (names, ECs, grades) and it is signed by the NOSTER academic director or programme manager.
As an additional service, NOSTER offers a PhD Certificate in Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion to PhD candidates who have completed a variety of modules of at least 15 EC, including the following compulsory elements:
1. Participation in a Seminar for one year;
2. Successful completion of a Course (e.g., Grand Course, Must-Have-Read);
3. Participation in at least one Kick-Off and/or Midyear Meeting;
4. Participation in at least one Spring Conference (including a presentation).
This PhD Study Programme is designed to (1) develop key academic and professional skills; (2) increase familiarity and experience with a range of different methods, theories and perspectives in Theology and Religious Studies; and (3) facilitate the development of a professional network of junior and senior scholars.
