Keynote speaker
A keynote lecture on the topic of democracy and religion will be delivered by Professor dr. Sophie van Bijsterveld (RU), who is an expert in the field of religion, politics and law. The title and abstract of her lecture will follow.

  • How to survive religious illiteracy – EN/NL
Journalists can be benevolent, but they might also try to trick you into making controversial statements. Taking on the role of interviewer, dr. Frank Bosman (TiU/TST) will test your capacity to keep control over a conversation and to respond to religious illiteracy.
  • Opiniestuk schrijven – NL
  • Defending your dissertation – EN/NL (max. 7 participants)
This workshop will help you prepare for your defense by providing information about the particularities of the academic ritual. The workshop is meant for PhD students in the final phase of their project. Acting as opponents, Professor dr. Annemarie Korte (UU) and dr. Marco Derks (NOSTER, RU) will pose a critical question based on a sample of your work (for example, an excerpt of the text presented during the Review Session, if you choose to present in that category) and evaluate your response. Each participant will be addressed in the language in which he/she will defend their thesis in real life.
