This year, the kick-off of the NOSTER academic year will take place on Friday 27 September 2019 in Nijmegen. During the morning programme, the Research Seminars will gather and in the afternoon we will pay attention to career paths in academia.
PhD candidates and ReMA students are all trained for a career in academia. However, it is omnipresent that only a small number will eventually get a (permanent) academic position. The plenary afternoon programme will be devoted to questions of academic careers. We will have a plenary lecture by Professor dr. Jack McDonald on the meaning of work in general and the relative value of planning your academic career. Among other things, McDonald is the Chaplain-President of the Central Committee of the Anglican Church in Belgium, visiting professor in Anglican Studies at KU Leuven and professor of Church History at FPTR Brussels. After this lecture, we will have a panel with three young scholars (dr. Anton ten Klooster and dr. Renée Wagenvoorde) on career planning as well as on doing administrative or policy work at an academic institution.
