Multidisciplinary PhD Seminars in Religion, Theology and Gender (2,5 EC a year)

Ten meetings during 2011 – 2012
This ongoing seminar meets monthly and offers a forum to present and discuss the PhD-research projects of the participants. The sessions alternately focus on the exploration of current debates in the multidisciplinary field of Religion, Theology and Gender and on the mastering of dissertation skills, both in relation to the research projects of the participants. Dissertation skills that are trained include styles of writing, references and bibliography, personal commitment and academic distantiation, publishing strategies, choosing and defending scientific methods and positions, and preparing for the public defense.

Level:
The seminars are open to students of accredited Research Master programmes and to PhD-students. In some cases, research-oriented students from other master programmes may be admitted. For further information, please contact the office (noster@uu.nl).

Course objectives:
The course aims at supporting the participants during their PhD-work by introducing them to current issues of scholarly debate and by developing their dissertation skills through workshops and intervision.
Final qualifications:
- The student is able to participate in collegial discussions of ongoing work, and to present and defend his or her own work in ways that meet academic standards.
- The student is able to assess and to discuss theoretical and methodical aspects of research in the field of Religion, Theology and Gender.
Course-specific Admission requirements:
The course is open to PhD-students with systematic, literary and historical approaches in the field of theology and religious studies.
